Course selection and approval
The normal load consists of five 3-credit courses (15 credits) each term. The choice of courses depends on a student’s prior academic work and on the point of entry into the B.Th. program. All B.Th. students must have their courses approved and Minerva form signed by the B.Th. advisor, Professor Torrance Kirby, (torrance [dot] kirby [at] mcgill [dot] ca)

Program requirements
The program of study extends over three academic years of full-time studies (90 credits) for those admitted with a Diploma of Collegial Studies and two academic years (60 credits) for those admitted with a Bachelor’s degree. For those admitted with a high school diploma, the program of study extends over four academic years (120 credits). Mature students should consult the Calendar for specifics on their program.

Required courses
The courses required for the degree are determined by specific point of entry into the B.Th. program. A detailed listing of the required courses can be found in the University Calendar. Students in the 120-credit and 90-credit programs are required to take the courses listed for Years 1, 2, and 3. Students in the 60-credit program are required to take the courses listed for Years 2 and 3. Course selection must be approved by the B.Th. Advisor in every case.

Permission is needed from the B.Th. Committee for courses selected from the curriculum of other departments within the University. By permission of the Chair of the B.Th. Committee, students may also enroll for courses at any university in the province of Quebec. See “Inter-University Transfer Agreement” in the General University Information and Regulation Section of the Calendar for details.

Professional and vocational courses (e.g., leading to ordination) are available through the In-Ministry Year (Master of Divinity [M.Div.]) upon the completion of the B.Th. degree.

Academic advising
In addition to being enrolled in the Faculty of Religious Studies, some B.Th. students are affiliated with one of the Theological Colleges in the Montreal School of Theology. Such students have an academic advisor in their College as well as one in the Faculty of Religious Studies. If you are affiliated with one of the Theological Colleges, your Minerva form must also be approved and signed by your College advisor.
