First Peoples' House celebrates of aboriginal culture
McGill University and its First Peoples' House proudly present the eighth annual pow-wow on Friday, Sept. 25, on the lower field at the downtown campus.
"The pow- wow is an annual event celebrating First Peoples. It's a diverse, day-long gathering where we invite students, and the entire community to share in our culture - traditional dances, drumming, and Inuit throat singing," said Waneek Horn-Miller, Administrator of First Peoples' House at McGill.
The event will welcome community groups such as the Native Friendship Centre of Montreal, Quebec Native Women's Shelter, Health Canada's First Nations and Inuit health unit. High school students from Kahnawake and Kahnesatake communities will be on hand to take part in the day. The kick-off begins at 9 a.m. with Elder Morning Star and the Grand Entry. A performance by Paumalu Cassiday of Hawaiian tradition singing and Haka, an Inter-tribal dance, will round out the festivities.
