McGill Principal congratulates mayor-elect of Montreal
McGill Principal and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Suzanne Fortier extends her congratulations to Denis Coderre, elected as Montreal's next mayor yesterday. Prof. Fortier reiterates McGill's commitment to continuing to work closely with the City in order to achieve Montreal's full potential as a knowledge- and innovation-based metropolis.
"McGill and other universities are major contributors to Montreal's economic, social and cultural well-being. At McGill, our faculty, staff and students are involved in the Montreal community in so many ways, through the research conducted on challenges facing the city or by developing initiatives aimed at helping the disadvantaged, for example," said Prof. Fortier. By fostering a culture based on knowledge and innovation, universities are also essential partners in helping Montreal become one the most thriving metropolises of the world. I wish to congratulate Mr. Coderre and assure him of our utmost collaboration in achieving this goal."
