Expert Alert: Commentary on the 10th anniversary of the Quebec Referendum

Published: 24 October 2005

On October 30, 1995, Quebecers voted narrowly in favour of remaining partners with Canada. Ten years later, how have relations between Quebec and Canada changed? Has the cultural divide been bridged? What social and political policies have been implemented as a result?

McGill professors Antonia Maioni and Jarrett Rudy can provide insightful response to these and other issues which arise from this watershed moment in Canadian history.

Professor Antonia Maioni is Director of the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada and an expert in public policy. Her research interests include provincial and Quebec politics, political parties and the Canadian political process. Journalists may contact Professor Maioni at 514-398-4815 or by antonia.maioni [at] mcgill.ca (email).

Professor Jarrett Rudy is a historian and the Chair of the Quebec Studies Program. His area of expertise is the study of the everyday interactions between cultural groups in Quebec and their relationships to larger economic political structures. He is a specialist in 19th- and 20th-century Canadian social and cultural history. Journalists may contact Professor Rudy at 514-398-3905 or by jarrett.rudy [at] mcgill.ca (email).

Both professors can be interviewed in French and English.
