Search begins for a new Provost

With Provost Anthony C. Masi’s second term coming to an end in June 2015, the search has begun for his successor.

McGill’s Board of Governors this week approved the choice of Board members to serve on the committee that will advise Principal Suzanne Fortier on a suitable candidate. The Board itself will appoint the next Provost, based on the Principal’s recommendation.

Pierre-Paul Tellier honoured for tireless volunteer work at Head & Hands

Recently Centraide handed out 14 Solidaires awards to honour the efforts of companies, community agencies and volunteers who, through their involvement, alleviate the effects of poverty and exclusion in Greater Montreal and improve the lives of the most vulnerable. These awards were presented at Distinctions, a recognition event held at the Montreal Science Centre in the presence of some 300 guests. The winner of the Solidaires Citizen Involvement award for 2014 was Pierre-Paul Tellier, Director of Student Health at McGill.

McGill awarded eight new Canada Research Chairs

Eight of McGill’s top researchers have been awarded Canada Research Chairs, Minister of State (Science and Technology) Ed Holder announced on March 28. Four CRCs have also been renewed, bringing a total of over $11 million to the university in additional funding for research over the next five to seven years.

Top philosopher to launch new Constitutional lecture series

One of the world’s leading political and legal philosophers is coming to McGill on Thursday to launch a new lecture series on constitutionalism and the free society. Jeremy Waldron will deliver the inaugural lecture of the Research Group on Constitutional Studies lecture series Thursday, Oct. 4, from 4:30- 6 p.m. Waldron’s lecture is titled Constitutionalism: A Skeptical View.

Royal Society of Canada honours 12 McGill researchers and scholars

The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) announced 71 new Fellows this week, including eight McGill researchers and scholars from the faculties of Arts, Science, Law, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the School of Computer Science. They join the more than 100 current McGill-affiliated Fellows.
