Dr. T to be honoured by Head & Hands

Dr. Pierre-Paul Tellier, Director of Student Health at McGill, will be honoured by Head & Hands for his 30 year association with the non-profit organization that has been offering medical, social, and legal services to Montreal youth since 1970.

Tellier, fondly referred to as Dr. T, began volunteering at the Head & Hands’ weekly youth clinic three decades ago and is now the organization’s sole physician. Along the way, Tellier also spent over a decade on Head & Hands’ Board of Directors.

Wainberg earns Top Canadian Achievements Award

Mark Wainberg, Director of the McGill University AIDS Centre, has been honoured by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) as one of the five recipients of the CIHR-CMAJ Top Canadian Achievements in Health Research Awards.

Chaplaincy Services to receive Yellow Door Community Service Award

The Montreal community organization The Yellow Door has chosen McGill’s Chaplaincy Services as this year’s recipient of its Award of Recognition of Excellence in Community Service.

Rev. Neil Whitehouse, Interim Director, McGill Chaplaincy Services, will be on hand to receive the award at the Yellow Door’s annual Volunteer Gala on Friday, April 12, at the Salon Thalia.

Lucky 13 Juno nomiations

Cellist Yegor Dyachkov, who teaches at the Schulich School of Music, is one of the lucky thirteen McGill instructors and graduates who have been nominated for a Juno award this year. Dyachkov, along with the two other members of the piano trio Triple Forte, is up for best classical album of the year (solo or chamber ensemble) for the groups’ self-titled debut album, which is garnering great reviews for their performance of music by Maurice Ravel, Dmitri Shostakovich and Charles Ives.

McGill CPE’s Lisa Gallagher wins PM’s Award of Excellence

There are scarecrows, witches and pumpkins for Halloween, of course. But over the past few weeks, a number of somewhat unusual decorations have lined the walls at the McGill Childcare Centre. Hearts with colourful swirls, shiny pressed leaves, tiny stickperson portraits, and a giant hand-painted sign in the entryway – each work of art, in its own way, says congratulations to Lisa Gallagher, the daycare’s director.

H. Patrick Glenn named President of the American Society of Comparative Law

McGill Law professor H. Patrick Glenn was elected President of the American Society of Comparative Law (ASCL), during the organization’s annual conference, held Oct. 4-6.

“This is wonderful news for our Faculty,” said McGill Law Dean Daniel Jutras. “At every comparative law conference I have attended over the past decades, the first question I get from colleagues from other universities is “How is Patrick Glenn?”. In the global comparative law community, Patrick is a household name, bringing honour to McGill.”
