Dussault shines in Shrine Bowl as Redmen outlast Stingers 53-52 in OT thriller

Rookie quarterback Pierre-Luc Dussault of Quebec City threw for 538 yards and three touchdowns in his debut as a starter as McGill rallied from a 20-point, second-half deficit to edge Concordia 53-52 in an overtime thriller and capture the 37th annual Montreal Shrine Bowl before 2,601 at Concordia Stadium, Saturday.
Rohrbach scores six as Redmen lacrosse trounce Trent in Homecoming game

Alexander Rohrbach scored six goals and Connor Goodwin collected nine points as McGill trounced Trent University 19-7 in a men’s lacrosse homecoming game at Percival Molson Stadium, Saturday.
The result improved McGill’s record to 6-0 in CUFLA action and extended their win streak to 16, dating back to last year.
The Redmen roared to a 9-1 lead after the opening quarter, then led 12-5 at the half and 14-7 after three periods.
Arndt clouts three homers as baseball team sweep Islanders

Outfielder Channing Arndt of Yarmouth, Maine, went 5-for-6 with three homers and seven runs batted in as the McGill baseball team swept a doubleheader from the John Abbott College Islanders, Saturday. The Redmen won the opener 15-5 and took the nightcap 14-3. Both games were shortened by the mercy rule.
Arndt, a political science senior, reached base seven times over the two games. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-fielder also had a walk, was hit by a pitch and scored six runs.

Riding a two-game win streak, the 2-1 Redmen will square off against the 0-3 Université de Sherbrooke Vert & Or on tonight at Molson Stadium.
The night promises to be a colourful one as all fans, young or old, wearing red in support of the home team will get in for free. Organizers of Fandamonium are anticipating the largest McGill crowd in decades and a win over Sherbrooke would put the Redmen in the driver’s seat for a third-place finish in the six-team Quebec conference with five games remaining before playoffs.
Rugby Martlets crush Carabins, set to host Concordia in annual Drummond Cup game

Brianna Miller of Pointe Claire, Que., accounted for 15 points as the McGill women’s rugby team mowed down the Montreal Carabins 35-12 in RSEQ university action at Terrain Vincent d’Indy, Sunday.
McGill improved to 2-0 lifetime against the Carabins, including a 67-0 whitewash in their inaugural meeting last year.
Miller, a physical education senior who was McGill’s top point-getter last season, scored one try and added five conversions.
McGill manhandles Mounties 48-17 in Sackville

Quarterback Jonathan Collin threw for 367 yards, a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another TD as the upstart McGill Redmen cruised to a 48-17 road victory over Mt. Allison to put a damper on the Mounties Homecoming celebrations in an interlocking CIS football game between the RSEQ and AUS conferences at MacAulay Field, Saturday.
New McGill principal proves to be lucky charm as Redmen capture 45th Shaughnessy Cup game

Luis Guimont-Mota, a sophomore from Quebec City, rushed for 111 yards and a pair of touchdowns as McGill defeated Concordia 32-19 to capture the 45th annual Shaughnessy Cup football game before 2,845 – including Suzanne Fortier, McGill’s newly appointed Principal – at Percival Molson Stadium, Friday.
Redmen look to end 10-year Shaughnessy Cup drought tonight at Molson Stadium

The McGill Redmen football team is looking to end a decade-long drought in Shaughnessy Cup play as it hosts the Concordia Stingers tonight at Molson Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
The crosstown rivals will participate in the 45th Shaughnessy Cup, first awarded in 1969 when McGill beat Loyola College to lay claim to local football supremacy. Since 1975, the cup has been fought for in an annual match between McGill and Concordia University. Overall, Concordia holds a 21-17 edge over McGill in the Shaughnessy Cup series.
McGill rallies to capture national tennis championship

Alexandra Beran of Oakville, Ont., defeated Erika Voaklander in a tie-breaker as McGill rallied to edge Alberta 6-5 and capture their first-ever Canadian university national tennis championship at Rexall Centre, Sunday.
Beran, a 19-year-old sophomore majoring in economics and psychology, won the thriller by scores of 7-6 (6), 5-7, 10-7. Earlier, she also paired up with teammate Nicholas Fox to win a mixed doubles match 4-6, 6-3, 10-8.
McGillians set to compete at the Canada Games

Six athletes from McGill will be competing for various provincial teams at the Canada Games in Sherbrooke over the next ten days.
The track and field competition, slated for Aug. 11-17, features five McGillians, including Caroline Tanguay, a physical therapy sophomore from St. Hubert, Que., who will compete for Quebec in two disciplines – the high jump and pole vault.
