Getting started for instructors

Step 1: Verify your web browser

To use myCourses successfully, you will need to ensure that your web browser is configured appropriately. Please use the integrated Web Browser Checker to verify that your browser is valid. For each category, you need a green checkmark. If you get a red cross, follow the instructions in the category to change its setting.

We are currently running Blackboard Vista 8.0.2. For specific browser and operating system recommendations on this release, please see the Browser Tune-Up Page from Blackboard Inc.

Step 2: Sign in to myCourses and verify your courses for the upcoming term

At the top left of the myCourses homepage, click on Sign in. In the pop-up window, enter your:

  • McGill ID number (9 digits)
    (example: 260999999)
  • Minerva password (6 characters)
  • - OR -
  • McGill Username - Your McGill email
    (example: john.smith@mcgill.ca)
  • McGill Password - Email password (8 characters)
  • Note: The ID and password are the same as for signing in to Minerva.

Once signed in, click on the myCourses link under 'Go to myCourses' on the right to enter the system.

The first time you enter myCourses, you may see pop up windows similar to the one on the right. For each window, click the "Always trust content from this publisher" checkbox and then click Run.

If you are having trouble signing into WebCT, contact ICS Service Desk.

Step 3: Decide to copy your course content and structure or to start building a new one

You are now able to copy your course content and structure from term to term inside myCourses. The first time you access a course, you will be able to choose if you would like to start from a template, from a blank section, or copy content from another course section in myCourses. Step 4: Recommended - Sign up for myCourses workshops

For course descriptions, schedules, and links to registration, click on Workshops.

At any time, you may consult the Index of documentation for instructors using myCourses, which is organized by topics such as "Content", "Group Activities", "Assignments", and so on.
