Tutorial Service Coordinator for the 2013-2014 academic year
Duties: Assist the MWC Director in vetting applications from prospective tutors. Assist the MWC Director in interviewing and selecting prospective tutors. Conduct training sessions for new tutors and, as necessary, refresher training sessions for returning tutors. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate tutors. Plan and prepare weekly schedules according to tutor availability. Oversee the online appointment booking system. Oversee and update tutorial social media sites. Liaise with the McLennan Library and the MacDonald campus regarding room booking and usage. Respond to email inquiries. Run Tutorial Service staff meetings and prepare follow-up reports in a timely fashion. Prepare teaching and learning handouts for tutors and tutees. Collect usage data on a monthly basis and prepare reports in a timely fashion. Design, develop, and offer small-group workshops for internal and external users. Assist in publicizing and promoting the service. Maintain and submit a weekly log of coordination activities.
Required Skills: Previous experience as an academic writing instructor or tutor is a definite asset. Experience in related areas such as private tutoring, corporate tutoring, and proofreading and editing are also desirable. Experience with scheduling and data collection software. Excellent time-management and organizational skills. Applicants should have impeccable spoken and written English. Preference will be given to McGill graduate students.
Hourly Rate: The hourly rate for this position is $25. Number of hours per week will vary, but will average approximately 15.

Writing Tutors
Duties: Meet with students to provide guidance on written assignments, focusing on elements such as tone, diction, the rules and conventions of English grammar, paragraphing, organization and style, development of ideas, and construction of sound arguments. Attend training sessions and staff meetings. If interested, assist the Tutorial Service Coordinator in the development of workshops and seminars. Maintain accurate logs of tutorial sessions. Submit relevant data and documents (e.g., session logs and time sheets) in a timely fashion.
Required Skills: McGill graduate students have priority. Previous experience as an academic writing tutor or instructor is a definite asset. Experience in related areas such as private tutoring, corporate tutoring, and proofreading and editing are also assets. Applicants should have impeccable spoken and written English. The ideal applicant will also be available to tutor at both the downtown and Mac campuses.

Call for Applications: Conveners for Graduate Peer Writing Groups
The McGill Writing Centre seeks conveners for Graduate Peer Writing Groups that will meet throughout the 2013-14 academic year. Responsibilities include fostering a supportive and productive environment where graduate students can offer and receive critiques of written works-in-progress; facilitating and moderating group discussions; providing regular updates on group activities and progress; attending to logistical and organizational tasks associated with group operations; and providing the Graduate Writing Coordinator with a final report.
Qualifications: Ideal candidates will hold a graduate degree (PhD preferred). Preference will be given to candidates with excellent written and oral communication skills, a history of teaching excellence, and a keen understanding of the writing process in and/or beyond their disciplines. Note that a diverse corps of conveners with backgrounds in humanities, science, and social science fields is sought.

Call for Applications: Graduate Writing Workshop Leaders
The McGill Writing Centre (MWC) seeks leaders for workshops to be offered to graduate students on a range of writing-related topics and scholarly and professional genres. Responsibilities include working with the Graduate Writing Coordinator and other MWC staff to develop and refine workshop content and participating in the staging and running of workshops. Workshops will be held throughout the 2013-14 academic year.
