Placement tests are required for admission to most CESL Undergraduate courses. Students interested in taking CEAP 250 do not need to write a placement test; instead, students write a brief composition IN CLASS on the first day of classes.
Taking the Placement Test does not guarantee a place in a course. Registration for courses is on a first-come, first-served basis.
CESL Graduate courses do not require placement tests. Under certain conditions, a Graduate student may take an Undergraduate course (either CESL or CEAP); in this case, a placement test is required.
- Any Graduate student who wishes to take an MWC Undergraduate writing course must take the MWC placement test to determine need and level. Students will then be issued a permit to register; students will not be able to register on MINERVA without the MWC permit.
- Undergraduate courses at the 400 level and below also require permission from the student’s department (usually from the student’s supervisor). Students are advised to take the placement test before seeking permission, as the test will demonstrate need.
