At only 67 years old, the acclaimed pianist Jan Jaczyk passed away on August 31st of a generalized cancer, leaving in mourning his companion Danielle Raymond and their two chlidren (Amaryliis, cellist living in Paris and Corinne, violinist in Bâle), along with the entire Montreal jazz community.

Born in Cracovie in 1947, the Polish musician first immigrated to the U.S, where he was professor at the Berkelee College of Music in Boston.  Wanting to found a family with his companion Danielle Raymond, he then moved to Montreal in the 1980s.

Jan Jarczyk was a professor at the Schulich School of Music since 1991 and became known as one Quebec's most remarkable jazz pianists.  His many public performances as well as his dozen recordings are a witness to his compositional and pianistic genious.
