Works by Chris Harman, Schumann, Gubaidulina, Ligeti, Benjamin and Chin This recital is designed to reflect and compliment Chris Paul Harman’s new works After Schumann I (2008) and After Schumann II (2013). It encompasses a wide range of repertoire juxtaposing the works of Ligeti, Lachenmann, Gubaidulina, with the Piano Etudes by Unsuk Chin and Piano Figures by George Benjamin, alongside Schumann’s Kinderszenen and Album for the Young. Collectively, they portray not only the rich imagination and humorous world of child’s play, but also the sophisticated musical wit of the composers. The connections and contrasts between old and new works reveal a colourful, complex yet intricate sound world.
