Published: 13 June 2013

The Board of Directors and Artistic Director Boris Brott of the McGill Chamber Orchestra (MCO) are pleased to announce two important appointments. Effective immediately, the organization welcomes Taras Kulish as its new Executive Director and Jean-Sébastien Roy as its new concertmaster.

“I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Executive Director of this little jewel of an orchestra in Montreal. I look forward to working alongside Maestro Boris Brott and Board President, Dr. Hans Black, in sustaining and building the organization in this new chapter of its history” says Mr. Kulish.

Mr. Kulish, a native Montrealer, has close to twenty years experience in the music industry. During this period he led an active performing career, as an operatic bass-baritone, mainly in Canada as well as in Europe and the United States. In 2005, he cofounded the Green Mountain Opera Festival in Vermont, USA where he successfully led and grew the organization over a period of seven years. At the festival, Mr. Kulish presented two full opera productions, several concerts and a very popular young artist program for singers and pianists. Having studied Economics at Concordia University and music at McGill and University of Toronto, Mr. Kulish has a wide reach in the music industry as well as a strong business background.

The second new appointment is the addition of concertmaster, Jean-Sébastien Roy.  He is a winner of the MSO Competition and a recipient of the Joseph-Rouleau prize at the Montreal International Music Competition. He already has two great distinctions behind him, winner of the “Prix d’Europe” 2006 and the Canada Council for the Arts grant permitting him usage from 2006 to 2009 of a Stradivarius Windsor Weinstein 1717. Mr. Roy has performed as a soloist with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony, the Violon du Roy, the Edmonton Symphony and the Orchestre Métropolitain under the baton of maestro Nézet-Séguin.

Maestro Boris Brott says "We are delighted to welcome celebrated Québécois violinist Jean-Sebastien Roy as Concertmaster. He is a superb musician and a wonderful collaborator. He has the full cooperation and respect of the entire team".

The MCO will be announcing its 74th season in the upcoming weeks.
