Maîtres en musique: Schulich Percussionists on Canal Savoir

Discover five Quebec universities and their diversified training programs in Maîtres en musique,  a series of 60 minute broadcasts filmed last season with Canal Savoir.  The Schulich School of Music, along with University of Montreal, University of Sherbrooke, Laval  University and University of Quebec at Montreal each participated with Canal Savoir.  This illuminating series goes behind the scenes to explore the master-apprentice relationship and how musical traditions are transferred to future generations of musicians. The series offers a unique view into the teaching of music at the university level in Quebec.  

In the episode for the Schulich School of Music, students in the percussion programme invite you into a little-known abstract world, where the percussionist's materials come from varied sources and where they must also incorporate other forms of artistic expression, including dance, theatre and singing.  Works performed in this episode include Variations on a text by Victor Hugo (Jean-Pierre Drouet),  Toucher (Vinko Globokar and To the Earth (Frederic Rzewski) being taught by the French  guest percussionist Jean Pierre Drouet.  Participating students include Anne Chabot-Bucchi, Joseph Fox, Alexander Haupt, Austin Lamarche and Olivier Tremblay-Noël

The series will be broadcast on Canal Savoir on Tuesday, March 1 at 9:00 p.m.Thursday, March 3 at 9:00 a.m.; Friday March 4 at 6:00 p.m.; Saturday, March 5 at 2:00 p.m.; and Sunday, March 6 at 11:00 p.m
