Lena Weman is a Swedish flute player and researcher with focus on the early music scene and performance practice. Her concert activities are mostly focused towards the chamber music, but she has also played extensively with a number of Swedish baroque orchestras, among them the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble as the principal flutist for almost 20 years. She also plays the viola da gamba.
On recordings she is principal flutist on a number of recordings of Bach-works (the B-minor mass, the Passions etc), in music by Kraus, Haeffner and several other composers. She has recorded the complete Flute Sonatas by CPE Bach together with Hans-Ola Ericsson (on the Swedish label BIS), and released 2012 the Complete Flute Sonatas by JS Bach, also with Hans-Ola Ericsson (on the Norwegian label Euridice). During 2012 recordings of the Trio Sonatas (originally for organ) and of the Musical Offering will be released, also on Euridice.
Weman holds a Master of Arts in Musicology from Uppsala University and a PhD from Luleå University of Technology in Musical Performance. The title of dissertation is: "…the world in a skater’s silence before Bach". In 2004 she was appointed at The School of Music/Luleå University of Technology as lecturer in music. After the completion of her PhD in 2008, Weman was promoted to senior lecturer in musical performance.
