Brian Robinson is the co-ordinator of the activities of the McGill Bass Class. He has 27 years of teaching experience at the university level and 29 years of experience as an orchestral double bassist. He is the Associate Principal Bass of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, a post he has held since 1983. From 1977 to 1982, Robinson was Principal Bass of the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. Prior to that time he was Assistant Principal Bass in the Hamilton Philharmonic and a member of the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra. He is currently the Acting Principal Bass of the OSM.
In addition to his activities at McGill and the OSM, Robinson is an active chamber musician, performing with such ensembles as Les Chambristes de Montreal, Musica Camerata, Festival Alexandria, and the McGill Faculty Series. Robinson is a founding member of “Bull Fiddle Madness”, a quartet of OSM bassists who perform at various times throughout the year.
Students of Brian Robinson have won positions in many orchestras in Canada, (Montreal, Calgary, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Ottawa) and Europe (Antwerp, Zurich, Winterthur).
