Andrew began playing the trumpet at the age of four; playing in Brass bands and The Leicestershire Schools Symphony Orchestra, he was also a Chorister at Leicester Cathedral winning awards as a young chorister and trumpeter.

In 1990 he entered the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in London U.K. During his time at the RAM he was asked to play Principal Trumpet in the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (GMJO), touring twenty-six European countries, the GMJO was conducted by Claudio Abbado, Ricardo Chailly and Sir Neville Marriner. Andrew performed as soloist with the RAM String orchestra, RAM Brass Ensemble (directed by John Wallace) and with the London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Andrew was awarded many scholarships and bursaries for tuition and performance and was a recitalist for the Countess of Munster Musical Trust; selected by Philip Jones. Andrew studied the Trumpet with William Houghton, Raymond Allen, John Wilbraham and Hans-Peter Schu. As a student he performed in classes with John Wallace, Jeffrey Curnow, Paul Archibald, John Miller and Denis Wick.
