2017 McGill Oboe Reed Making workshop

Event

Are you a pre-university oboist looking to perfect your reed making skills?

Perhaps you haven't learned to make reeds yet?

Join us this summer for the McGill 2016 Oboe Reed Making Workshop!

Date: July 23-27, 2017

Location: Schulich School of Music of McGill University, 527 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal QC, H3A 1E3 Canada

Instructors:

  • Dr. Jacqueline Leclair
  • Teaching assistant and counsellor: Dana Boyd

Students will spend five days of reed-making sessions covering everything from the beginning stages of reed construction to putting the final touches on reeds. Beginning reed makers will acquire the skills to become independent reed makers and students with reed making experience will become experts. McGill oboe professor Dr. Jacqueline Leclair and her student counsellor will guide you through the process, culminating in a presentation for parents on the final day.

The Reed Making Workshop will also feature a presentation by Dr. Leclair about the history of the oboe and reed making, a class on how to select, maintain and adjust oboes, and master classes and optional free private lessons with Dr. Leclair.
