A New Musical Era has been Sounded at McGill

Thanks to government support and a transformative philanthropic gift for higher education, music creation, performance, teaching and technology are boldly moving forward into the future. McGill grad Seymour Schulich raised the bar for private giving in Canada by generously donating $20 million towards the Faculty of Music, which is now called the Schulich School of Music of McGill University.

On September 30, 2005, we inaugurated our New Music Building, a $70-million marvel. It was funded, in part, by Mr. Schulich's gift and the considerable foresight of the Quebec and Canadian governments. A central component of the new site is the 200-seat Tanna Schulich Recital Hall, named in honour of Schulich's beloved wife. The intimate recital and lecture space will delight Montrealers and students with its exquisite acoustical design.
