RESEARCH ASSISTANT in Occupational Therapy Unit

Supervisor: Melissa Park

Job Description and Primary Duties: Manage admin duties for various qualitative, participatory research projects using a mixed-methods and narrative phenomenological approach. Admin duties would include: monitoring budget and submiting and tracking expenses, submiting applications and renewals for research ethics approval, submiting RA timesheets, monitoring and renewing or drafting as needed hiring forms and letters for students (stipends, postdoc etc) and research assistants. Oversee data management and organization of research files. Possibility of additional research related tasks, such as literature reviews and data analysis.

Education and Experience: Bachelor or Masters degree in either social science or rehabilitation.

Other Qualifying Skills & Abilities: Background in qualitative research (social science, (medical) anthropology) an asset. Strong organizational skills for research duties and data management. Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with grant finances and budgeting an asset. Knowledge of McGill environment and research administration preferred.

Bilingual, (French, English) preferred.

Collaboration/work opportunity – Qualitative research for patient-reported outcome development

Position funded by the American Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) for a research project aimed to develop a patient-reported outcome (PRO) instrument to measure postoperative recovery after abdominal surgery. This project will be conducted according to the FDA Guidelines for PRO development and, in line with FDA recommendations, the first step involves an in-depth qualitative study (using interviews and focus groups) to develop a conceptual framework of recovery and underpin the generation of items. Seeking a senior qualitative researcher to collaborate in this project and guide the team through this qualitative work. The options for involvement are two-fold:

a) If you are an academic faculty member: we are looking for a collaborator (and we will hire a part-time research assistant, research associate or graduate student to conduct the operational work under your supervision).

 Or  b) If you are a research assistant, research associate or graduate student with senior expertise in qualitative research: we are looking for a part-time researcher to lead this study.
