Graduate Teaching Workshop: Improve Your Teaching!

MITI, funded by the generosity of Anne and Stewart Brown, will offer a free teaching development workshop for Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Science graduate students December 2nd and 4th, 2009. This workshop, based on the T-PULSE graduate teaching workshop, will be given by the MITI Teaching Fellows. From this workshop, we hope to recruit more graduate teaching fellows to continue to develop the workshop at Mac.

T-PULSE course description:

“This workshop will assist you in becoming an excellent teacher by providing a practical introduction to science education to complement your discipline knowledge. Using the literature of science education, we will explore ways of teaching that are based on empirical evidence and framed by learning theories. This allows us to adopt the practices that have been shown to be most effective.”

“Fellows will explore learner-centred approaches to teaching that can be easily used in the lab or classroom to increase achievement, conceptual understanding, and equity. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect upon their own approaches towards teaching, to increase their skills for demonstrating in laboratories & discussion sections, and to develop a foundation for future academic positions.”
