Undergraduate Program

Two undergraduate students studying

Our undergraduate program is a four-year Co-op program that includes several courses offered by the experts at École Polytechnique de Montréal. Our students require a strong background in geology, physics, and chemistry as well as a foundation in mathematics, computer applications, economics, and communication skills. Details on the courses required to complete the program are available in the next section Program & Courses.

The program prepares students for one of the most diverse ranges of career paths for an aspiring engineer. Essentially, the mining engineer is responsible for the safe, economic and environmentally responsible recovery of mineral resources from the earth’s crust. As a result, our graduates are versatile and highly trained, and can transfer easily within various projects and job tasks including:

  • Mine design
  • Mine management
  • Mine production
  • Engineering design and technology
  • Environmental engineering
  • Tunneling
  • Feasibility studies
  • Consulting
  • Corporate management
  • Financial evaluation
  • Mineral policy formulation
  • Project management

Our undergraduates have the opportunity to travel within North America and around the world through their co-operative work terms. In addition, the possibility for exchange programs at recognized universities overseas can also highlight this exposure to unique professional, academic and cultural experiences.

Last but not least… our department has the lowest student-to-professor ratio within the faculty of engineering, and a world class research program supported by state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. But since life is not only work, we often organize extra-curricular activities just to have fun!
