Information Bulletin No. 3 on Registration (Again!), Getting to Montreal and Location of Sessions

July 19, 2013 - Greeting from MIE and Montreal

Many thanks to those who have rushed us their registration completed full papers the two-to-three page summaries. We are saving them and acknowledging their receipt as they arrive.

In this third Information bulletin, I am writing to discuss seven topics, as follows:

  1. Registration for the Conference. Please rush your registration forms to us. The form is already posted on the conference website (www.mcgill.ca/mie). Please FAX them to us. The designated fax machine is located in an isolated and secure place and we are planning to destroy the credit card information part of the registration forms as quickly as possible. The fax No. is 001-514-398-5116 (001 is Canada’s code and 514 is the Montreal Area code). We will acknowledge receipt by e-mail.
  2. Collections of Full papers and the two-to three page Summaries. We are planning to produce two collections and distribute them during the conference: i) a hard- copy collection of the two-to-three page summaries, and ii) the conference proceedings containing full papers on a USB Key. The experience of the past MIE conferences suggests that these two collections can provide adequate informed for active participation without violating copyrights. The conference will have an informal, but informed, discussion-intensive and workshop-like format to enable maximum discussions of accepted papers. As there will not be sufficient time for us to read all full-length papers, the summaries should be informative and enable our active participation in, and also maximally benefiting from, all discussions
  3. Ground Transportation from the Montreal Airport to the City. Two modes of transportation are available at the Montreal Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport: a direct public bus and Taxis. A $9.00 ticket for the Bus Number 747 can be purchased just after the airport’s arrival area. The bus ride is about 40 minutes long and takes passengers to the bus terminal, which is very close to the Centrally-located Metro station, which is one of the main transfer stations that gives you access to all metro lines. McGill University and all of McGill Hotels are within 7 to 8 minutes from McGill or Peel Metro Stations. The cost of a taxi is about $40 and it takes about 30 minutes to most down town hotels. Two to three passengers may share it.
  4. The Conference Arrangements. The interactive Friday Symposium on “The Patterns of Internationalization: The Experience Canadian Firms” will be held at the McGill International Executive Institute located on the Sixth floor of 1001 Sherbrooke Street west, Montreal and will start at 9:00 AM. There is no extra charge for this symposium. The closest metro station is called “Peel Station” on Peel Street, which one block from Sherbrooke Street, west.
  5. The two-day conference will start with an Opening Reception (and late registration!) about 5:30 PM and will be held at the McGill International Executive Institute. All of the Saturday and Sunday Session will be also held at the Executive Institute (The detailed program will be available about a week before the conference). The Closing Session and discussion of publications and future directions is scheduled for Monday Morning. Traditionally, we have discussed issue of common concern to all of us in this session, including potential research topics and themes for future papers and conferences, formation of teams, collection and formation of multi-country data, methodology and the publication of the work of conference in cohesive collections.
  6. Sight Seeing Opportunities. The first weekend of August is a nice time in Montreal and the vicinity. Montreal offers many attractive sites for a few days of sight-seeing (see http://www.tourisme-montreal.org/ ). Furthermore, one- or two-day trips to the Ottawa Capital Region (http://www.ottawatourism.ca/ ), Quebec City (http://www.quebecregion.com/en), Mount Tremblant (http://www.tourismemonttremblant.com/en/ ) and Thousand Island historic region (http://www.visit1000islands.com/visitorinfo/) are all within two to three hour drive from Montreal. If you have not finalized your travel plans, try to take advantage of these scenic and enjoyable opportunities before starting your busy Fall Term.
  7. The Doctoral Colloquium will be starting on Thursday, August 1st, 2013 and will last for two days. Doctoral candidates will be joining the Opening Reception of main conference in Friday Evening.

I hope this note finds you very well and look forward to hearing from you soon. I further hope that you will have a pleasant journey to Montreal and enjoy your stay with us. I look forward to meeting you all at the conference in August.

Kind Regards,
Hamid Etemad
