McGill Institute for Aerospace Engineering

Led by the Lorne Trottier Chair in Aerospace Engineering, Professor Stephen Yue, the MIAE plays a leading role in promoting and coordinating collaboration between academic and industrial researchers, planning and initiating courses and encouraging undergraduate students to engage in projects with aerospace companies. The MIAE is integrated with similar institutes already existing at Concordia, École Technologie Superieure, École Polytechnique and Ryerson University, under the umbrella of the Montreal Aerospace Institute (MAI).

Montreal’s Aerospace Industry

Montreal’s Aerospace Industry is the world’s 4th largest centre of aerospace manufacturing and is the only area in the world where an entire aircraft can be assembled from locally manufactured components. Aerospace is Quebec’s leading export industry (over $10B in annual shipments).

Aerospace and Students

The MIAE offers work terms (500 to 1000 hours per year) to top undergraduate students to perform collaborative, industry driven, design and research projects. These are supervised by aerospace industry engineers and McGill professors.

The MIAE also promotes and facilitates research between McGill and the aerospace industry at the graduate level. This includes opportunities for graduate students and Faculty to work in aerospace facilities, and industry engineers to work in McGill laboratories.
