Faculty Of Medicine Prizes

Maude Abbott 
The Maude Abbott prize was established in 2010 by the Faculty of Medicine in order to recognize outstanding female Faculty Members who excel in Education, Research or Administration with a focus at the early career stage.

This prize consists of $10,000. The laureate must be prepared to present her vision on research, education or administration at a Faculty Town Hall meeting.



Nomination procedures for Faculty Members deemed worthy of the prize:

  • This award competition is open to female members of the Faculty of Medicine, who have had an academic appointment for two years but no more than 10 years at the Assistant Professor level.  Candidates must have an outstanding record of achievement in either teaching, research or by an exemplary commitment to the university or hospital.
  • Candidates can be nominated by an institute or school director, chair of their department, or a faculty member. One cannot nominate oneself. The submissions will be judged by the Dean and Associate Deans.
  • The full nomination package should be submitted by Monday, February 17, 2014, 4:00 pm to riac [dot] med [at] mcgill [dot] ca (Dalia Soliman) , and must include the following documents:
  1. A letter from the nominator(s) summarizing the particular accomplishments of the nominee. The letter of nomination should include aspects of the candidate’s life and career that support the criteria of the award.
  2. Nominee's CV (common CV format)
  3. Candidate statement addressing the criteria of the award.
  4. 2014_prize_nomination_form.docx

Notification of Results: The results of the deliberations will be transmitted to the nominees by April 1st.


Haile T. Debas The Haile T. Debas prize was established in 2010. In order to promote equitable diversity at all levels in the Faculty of Medicine, this prize recognizes a Faculty member(s) of any gender or ethnicity who helps promote diversity; which could be by acting as role model(s), mentor(s), or by implementing new policies so as to increase underrepresented minorities in undergraduate or postgraduate training, faculty recruitment, retention and/or promotion.

This prize consists of $10,000. The laureate(s) must be prepared to present his/her/their work at a Faculty Town Hall meeting.

Nomination procedures for Faculty Members deemed worthy of the prize:
