McGill University Financial Aid
For information on possible sources of financial aid, students are invited to contact the Scholarship and Student Aid Office. Newly accepted students entering their first year of an undergraduate program may apply for Entrance Financial Aid via the Financial Aid Menu on Minerva. Applicants for university and faculty financial aid must first avail themselves to government and other sources of assistance for which they may be eligible.
Faculty of Medicine Scholarships and Bursaries
The Faculty of Medicine's MDCM program has adopted a primarily needs-based approach to its scholarships and bursaries. This acknowledges the very high academic performance already achieved by students entering the Faculty. Many of the funds under the Faculty's jurisdiction are awarded on the basis of good academic standing and financial need, and are administered by the Scholarship and Student Aid Office. This office provides information on government aid, institutional loans, bursaries and awards, as well as counseling on budget and debt management. In-Course students may apply for In-Course Financial Aid via the Financial Aid/Awards Menu on Minerva. Scholarship, bursary and prize values are based on funds available. Section 7.2 of the Health Sciences Calendar outlines the various scholarships, bursaries, prizes, medals and loan funds available to medical students.
Bursaries for Research Projects
The faculty attempts to encourage students to engage in clinical or basic science research under the supervision of a member of faculty. Bursaries are available to enable students to carry out research projects during their medical studies. These are awarded on a competitive basis in the winter term and also during summer vacation. For more information, please enquire with the Research Bursary Program coordinator in the Faculty of Medicine.
In-Course Prizes, Medals and Awards
Students who demonstrate outstanding performance are recognized through the awarding of prizes, medals, and J.W. McConnell Awards. Receipt of an award is permanently recorded on the transcript of each recipient. This information is also included in the Dean's letter of evaluation.
