Logo of the MCB

The Centre for Bioinformatics (MCB) is a diverse collection of professors, postdoctoral fellows, and students, who share a common interest in Bioinformatics.

Over the past 4 years, we have grown to include 14 principal researchers at McGill. In total, there are over 60 MSc candidates, PhD candidates, and postdocs associated with these researchers. Our most recent addition is Jacek Majewski who holds a CRC.

Several members of our Centre are interested in the modelling of biological systems using non-linear dynamics (Perkins, Glass, Mackey, Swain). We are also interested in biological networks (Glass, Hallett, Swain). Two (Beech, Harrison) are interested in Bioinformatics related to evolution and population genetics. We have expertise in Bioinformatics for sequence analysis, comparative genomics, and genome evolution (Blanchette, Dewar, Harrison, Stromvik).

Members (Hallett, Kearney) interest also include Bioinformatics for Proteomics including the analysis of mass spectrometric data and interactions. We have experience with gene expression analysis in several microarray platforms including Affymetrix (Nadon) and Agilent (Hallett). A member of our Centre is also interested in the development of information systems and protocols related to Bioinformatics (Bartlett).

Academic

We also have an academic mandate. In addition to several Bioinformatics courses throughout departments at McGill including a Computational Biology minor in Computer Science, the MCB now offer a Graduate Option in Bioinformatics at the MSc and PhD levels. This program involves three faculties and 14 departments.
