Re: Dan Gardner Op-ed Dec. 1, 2007
May I respectfully disagree with Dan Gardner, who wrote that the public should not care about the Karlheinz Schreiber/Brian Mulroney "transaction."
The story, however, has gone from $100,000 to $300,000 to $500,000, including a Mulrony admission to having received $100,000 cash in an envelope, when he was still a member of Parliament. Now apparently Elmer MacKay, a former Mulroney cabinet minister, had a behind the scenes meeting with Stephen Harper over the matter at the request of Mulroney. The public does and should care because the whole political process is in question and all politicians, all ex-politicians and all their advisers and assistants are tarred with same brush. And now this appears to be only the tip of the iceberg - Consevatives as well as Liberals being involved. This is not merely a question of "what two old codgers got up to in a hotel room 14 years ago." Finding the true facts will bring justice to the innocent and to those responsible. The public is interested and does not want to be party to a cover-up.
