Mr. Zhang Yongjian is the secretary of the board of the China COSCO Holdings Company Limited, a part-time professor of Beijing University and Dalian Maritime University, a part–time professor of China University of Political Science and Law, a visiting researcher of the maritime law research centers of Beijing University and China University of Political Science and Law respectively, a core editor of Maritime Law Review, an arbitrator of China Maritime Arbitration Commission, and a member of the executive committee of China Maritime Law Association.
Mr. Zhang has published 10 books (including translations) and more than 100 thesis and articles. Mr. Zhang is the first one to introduce Prof. Tetley’s works into China and Chinese language world through translating them into Chinese.
Mr. Zhang joined COSCO Group in 1976. He was the general manager of the strategic planning and development division of COSCO Group from December 2002. Previously, Mr. Zhang was the general manager of the shipping department and the deputy managing director of Dalian Ocean Shipping Company and assistant president and the general manager of the strategic planning and development division of COSCO HK. Mr. Zhang has over 30 years of experience in the shipping business, as well as in legal affairs. Mr. Zhang graduated from the Shanghai Maritime University and the Dalian Maritime University. He has Master degree of Law. He is a senior economist.
Zhang Yongjian is a translator of Prof. Tetley’s two books into Chinese. He and Prof. Tetley have been friends for over twelve years, and met in person for the first time in Montreal on September 25, 2008.
