Dear Bob,
How are you and Greta and your lawyer offspring?
Thank you for your prayers for Rosslyn, who at times seems to be improving.
I am hoping to get some friends here to add sums of money to the Tetley Lecture Fund.
And, do you have names and addresses of Tulane Maritime Law Institute members who might still remember me?
We have an election here in Canada and it is not going particularly well for the Liberals (my team).
With best wishes,
Bill Tetley

Dear Professor Tetley
Many thanks for your enquiry. Maria Pittordis has asked me to respond as I head the cargo recoveries team at Hill Dickinson LLP.
Whilst we did update our records for a number of jurisdictions about two years ago, we do not maintain up-to-date records on an ongoing basis. Indeed, your own website is one of the sources to which I and my colleagues turn for information on any particular jurisdiction. I fear therefore that our own information will not be sufficiently updated for your purposes.
Kind regards
Stuart Armstrong

Dear Bill,
Dean David Meyer has just announced to the faculty your generosity in endowing the Tetley Lecture on maritime law here at Tulane. I've been going to the lectures for years, and even though I'm not a maritime lawyer, I find them interesting. More than that, I consider it an important addition to Tulane Law School's status in the maritime law area to have the distinguished lecturers, and your name, associated with our program. Thank you for showing your regard for Tulane in this exceptionally generous way. I hope that next year, you will be able to bring to us not just the lecture, but your presence as well. Besides the academic distinction of having you with us, we enjoy the pleasure of your company.
Many thanks once again--

Subject: Gift of Bill Tetley
Dear Colleagues,
I wanted to share with you that our longtime friend Bill Tetley has given the Law School a generous gift of $75,000 to endow the Tetley Lecture. As most of you know, Professor Tetley is a professor at McGill University, a leading figure in maritime law, and a frequent visitor to Tulane through the years. When I introduced the Tetley Lecture last fall, I remarked that it was a powerful reflection of the esteem in which our faculty holds Professor Tetley that it named the lecture in his honor even without the usual endowment to support it. When Professor Tetley later listened to a recording of the lecture, he was moved to return the gesture of respect and affection for Tulane by providing an endowment to support the expenses of the Lecture in perpetuity.
I am sure that Bill would be pleased to hear from his many friends here about how much his gesture means to us (and to future generations of students and faculty!). His e-mail address is William [dot] tetley [at] mcgill [dot] ca.
Best,
Dave

Dear Bill,
I just learned of your very generous gift to the Law School, and I want to express our deep appreciation and gratitude. Your loyalty to, and interest in, Tulane over the years has been most heartwarming.
Hope you are well. I am retiring after the next academic year. I will be seventy-six and will have taught at Tulane for forty-five years. I think it’s time to move on to something else.
Again, many thanks for your gift.
With warmest regards,
Harvey

Dear Bill,
I think the Dean, the faculty and myself personally are overwhelmed by this wonderful gesture. I just received the Dean’s message, which expresses thanks to you more eloquently than I could. What a wonderful bond this makes between Tulane and you and McGill. I am very proud to know you. Oliver Houck was reminiscing the other day about the party you put together many years ago here at Tulane—and the formation of the organization whose name I forget, but something like L’organisation de la Nouvelle Orleans Libre! And the placecards you distributed. All wonderful memories.
All warmest wishes to you and Ros.

Thank you for your messages. The Society was "Vivre La Nouvelle Orléons Libre" a take-off of the very serious Quebec separatist movement entitled "Vivre le Québec Libre" . We had many parties in various homes of members. (I have the minute book somewhere)
Keep in touch

Dear Bill,
Thanks very much for this note. I am delighted to learn of the Society and shall hope in time to satisfy the membership qualifications.
We are all still reveling in the kindness and significance of your gift to Tulane. It will secure the foundation of the Tetley Lecture for decades to come – and I hope you feel the impact already on your many friends here. A proper expression of thanks is making its way through the mails, but I did not want to waste an opportunity to say thank you again now!
Warmly,
Dave

Margaret Joan Evans Miskelly was a great friend and supporter of the Royal Roads ex-cadet club. Her first husband, Dennis Evans, class of 1943-45, was a fine Royal Canadian Navy officer and a popular classmate to us all.
Joan Evans Miskelly was a fine wife of Dennis Evans and of her second husband, David Arthur Miskelly.
All three - Joan, Dennis Evans and David Arthur Miskelly - will be greatly missed.

Message from Michael Evans ,
Thank you Bill for your kind words. Mom had a great life and made many friends - I will miss her deeply.

May Cutler was a "woman of all seasons" - philosophic author and editor of fine books and yet she was a competitive bridge player. The demanding mother of four sons and six grandchildren, she was also a free-spirit and active member of the human race.
May fried eggs and washed dishes years ago in her restaurant on Notre Dame Street, but she also became the Mayor of Westmount; who presented herself when no one else would oppose the establishment candidate. She won a surprise election and was a very successful politician.
As Mayor, she defended Westmount's integrity against absorption by Montreal but also rebuilt and renovated the Westmount library for the benefit of persons living in and outside the municipality's boundaries.
She will be missed.

Dear Professor Tetly,
I am a specialist working in the United States and am writing you to ask if you can confirm that the information for ‘Package and Kilo Limitations for 148 Countries’ on your McGill University website is current and up to date. I have found that your site is an excellent source of up to date and accurate information, but have been unable to convince a work colleague, who is insisting that the information in your document is wrong in its entirety.
http://www.mcgill.ca/maritimelaw/glossaries/package-kilo/#FN_NB
I understand that this is an unusual request, but a brief confirmation that your site is up to date and accurate to the best of your knowledge might save me a considerable amount of effort and aggravation.
Thank you for your kind assistance in this matter.
Best regards,
Specialist

Monsieur William (Bill) Tetley,
Cher monsieur Tetley,
Jacques Chagnon
Député de Westmount-Saint-Louis
