May Cutler was a "woman of all seasons" - philosophic author and editor of fine books and yet she was a competitive bridge player. The demanding mother of four sons and six grandchildren, she was also a free-spirit and active member of the human race.
May fried eggs and washed dishes years ago in her restaurant on Notre Dame Street, but she also became the Mayor of Westmount; who presented herself when no one else would oppose the establishment candidate. She won a surprise election and was a very successful politician.

As Mayor, she defended Westmount's integrity against absorption by Montreal but also rebuilt and renovated the Westmount library for the benefit of persons living in and outside the municipality's boundaries.

She will be missed.
