Departments and Research Units



The Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences includes the Institute of Parasitology, the School of Dietetics and Human Nutrition, six departments that focus on agriculture, food and the environment, and three interdisciplinary research centres.

The Department of Bioresource Engineering is responsible for teaching and research on engineering in the biological and environmental spheres, as well as agriculture.

The Department of Agricultural Economics looks at the application of economic theory and methods to problems in the global food system and the environment.

The Department of Animal Science examines modern animal agriculture and biology.

The School of Dietetics and Human Nutrition teaches and researches on the availability and preparation of food, community nutrition, evaluation of nutritional products, etc.

The Department of Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry teaches and carries out research on chemistry, biochemistry, analysis, safety, and processing of food products.

The Department of Natural Resource Sciences studies natural and managed ecosystems for the purpose of conservation and optimal resource management.

Research at the Institute of Parasitology is centered around the main themes of pathogenesis/host defense mechanisms and the molecular basis of drug resistance/drug target discovery.

The Department of Plant Science teaches and researches molecular and cellular plant biology, management of plant communities, and agricultural applications in a wide range of ecosystems.

The McGill School of Environment combines perspectives from the Faculties of Arts, Science, and Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. It bridges disciplines from the sciences and the arts to prepare its students as environmental professionals who think beyond traditional boundaries.
