Fall Orientation 2017

While the Fall Orientation period has ended, students are encouraged to continue to seek out social events, extracurricular activities and sports, student groups, societies, and clubs to join, both at the Mac and main McGill campuses. There are many opportunities to enrich your experience while you are at McGill; take the opportunity to meet new people and experience different cultures, and to explore Montreal, Quebec, and Canada.

Campus Bus Tour and Lunch

Sponsored by University Advancement, Mac Market, Macdonald Farm and Grad Studies

Join other new students to discover the Morgan Arboretum and Macdonald Campus Farm. Current students will be your bus tour guides as we explore the large campus. Lunch and getting to know each other activities will take place at the Farm. There will be a nominal charge of $5 for this event to cover bus rental. Pizza lunch will be included.

After the campus tour, come mingle and relax with the Mac campus crowd at the Ceilidh, aka the Sir William Macdonald Lounge. A friendly gathering spot with food and drink, the Ceilidh hosts many activities and events, particularly weekly Happy Hour on Thursday afternoons and evenings.

PGSS BBQ Bash - Downtown Campus

Macdonald Campus graduate students are welcome to attend all events offered by PGSS at the downtown campus. Come discover the McGill Postgraduate Student Society and McGill's central hub for graduate student life! In a lovely limestone building housing a bistro and a bar and hosting many activities and resources, come enjoy a fun-filled and delicious barbecue and meet grad students from many places around the world!

Welcome messages from the Dean (Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies) and Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The Welcome Presentation covers important information, including where to find guidance and support on your road to success as a graduate student at McGill. Attendance to this session is part of your responsibility as a graduate student to be aware of McGill procedures and regulations.

A talk by our very experienced counsellors who can guide you as to how to cope with the mental health challenges, such as stress or anxiety, that you may encounter during your grad studies and what resources are available for you at McGill and Macdonald Campus. PGSS/MCGSS Canoe Race

A bit of friendly competition on the refreshing waters of the St.  Lawrence River is the perfect opportunity to make new friends: Take a break from the hot Montreal sun and paddle your team to victory at the Macdonald Campus Canoe Race! This is a great way to meet fellow graduates and to shake off the freshman jitters in a fun and engaging outdoor activity. No prior experience required. Come alone or as a team and make sure to bring a swimsuit, because you will get wet! Registration is required and spaces are limited. Life vests will be provided, however all participants MUST know how to swim. Activity charge will be $8. (Shuttle bus from downtown to Macdonald extra.)
