BOB PUGH SCHOLARSHIP FULLY ENDOWED
Thanks to donations from alumni and a very successful Golf Tournament in September, Bob Pugh, Byron Beeler and members of the Golf Committee presented Dean Chandra Madramootoo with the initial cheque for the Bob Pugh Scholarship Fund at Homecoming 2008.
The Golf Committee worked tirelessly to secure sponsors and provide an enjoyable day for over 100 golfers at Emerald Links Golf and Country Club. The Fundraising team of Gerry Kelly and Byron Beeler contacted over 300 former Macdonald athletes to inform them of the scholarship. Many came to the Athletic Dinner held last Homecoming to honour Bob Pugh and many more came out to the Links to further support the Scholarship Fund. A tremendous effort by all and a wonderful opportunity for the reconnection of former teammates and friends!
Bob Pugh was the tireless Director of Athletics at Macdonald from 1955-69. During his tenure, he also coached Mac’s Football and Hockey teams. Coach Pugh was the first Executive Director of the CIAU (now know as the CIS), an organization he helped create. He was a member of the organizing committee that established the Vanier Cup, now the most prestigious event in Canadian intercollegiate football. He served as Co-Chair on the Olympic Hockey Committee and was Chef de Mission at the World Student Games in Moscow in 1972. He served for 20 years on the Lanark County Board of Education and 12 years on the Almonte Hospital Board, serving terms as Chair of both boards. Bob Pugh has had a very successful professional career as well as an active contributor to his community.
