Every five years, Macdonald honours an individual who has provided "outstanding contributions to the Macdonald community as demonstrated by a commitment and dedication to the Campus which has added immeasurably to the quality of the institution, its programs and student life". The award is open to all, faculty or staff, active or retired, alumni and friends.

CITATION
Professor David J. Lewis has demonstrated such commitment and dedication to student life and services on the Macdonald Campus for over three decades. David joined McGill in 1978 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Entomology and became Chair of the Department in 1992. He continued as Chair of Natural Resource Sciences when that Department was formed in 1993. In 2004, Dr. Lewis agreed to take on the responsibility of Associate Dean. As Associate Dean of Students he has served the Macdonald student population with unparalleled commitment, has mentored new academic advisors, and has resolved conflicts with the utmost fairness and compassion. In so doing, he has gained an enormous amount of respect from both staff and students. In 2005, Professor Lewis was presented with the Macdonald Campus Award for Teaching Excellence, a testament to his commitment to teaching.
