Authentication and access
This page has information on how to log on to the Library computers and wireless network.
McGill students and staff
Computer workstations
- McGill Username and McGill Password are used to log in to Library computers.
- This gives access to software, hardware, and electronic resources
- Save files on your personal drive (P: drive for students or R: drive for staff)
Wireless Network
The Library is part of the McGill Wireless Zone, allowing McGill students and staff who own laptops to connect to the Internet.
Visiting students, faculty and scholars
eduroam
Students and faculty from other educational institutions may be able to use eduroam (EDUcation ROAMing) to access the McGill wireless network. Eduroam is an authentication service allowing users from participating educational institutions to securely access the wireless network of any eduroam-enabled institution by using the same credentials they would use at their home institution.
Guest network accounts
A guest network account may also be set up to support, on a short-term immediate basis, academic pursuits by visiting scholars which are consistent with the scholarly teaching, learning and research activities of McGill University. The Guest Network Account is not intended to provide library visitors with frequent or ongoing access to library computer resources, nor casual access to the internet, nor off-campus access.
Guest access account
Finally, visiting students and scholars can always use the guest access account (see below) to log on to any workstation in the library.
Guest access accounts
Clients accessing computer workstations in the Library by logging in as a guest (Username: guest [dot] library [at] mcgill [dot] ca; Password: guest123) are welcome to access most of our electronic resources. Please note that guest accounts do not provide access to unlimited web browsing, software applications, and hardware other than what is required to view, print, and download documents. Some licensed resources are also restricted to members of the McGill community. For more information about printing see Scan, print and copy in the Library.
If you have any comments about the Library or suggestions of how we could do things better, please let us know.
