CamScanner
Document scanner
A useful iPhone app for scanning documents to read later. Includes batch scanning options and image management functions.
Installation Instructions
- Download the app from this location.
- Once the app has been installed, open it. Choose whether or not you wish to accept Push notifications from the app.
- A series of short tutorial screens will appear. Swipe through them to start using the app.
- The app may download and install various updates, after which it is ready for use
DropBox
File storage and access utility
Dropbox is a free service that lets you bring all your photos, docs, and videos anywhere. Any file you save to your Dropbox is accessible from all your computers, iPhone, iPad and the Dropbox website.

- Start the app. If you already have an account log in. If not, create a free account by touching the link and filling in your details.
- Dropbox is now ready to use.
Dragon Dictation
Dictation software
Dragon Dictation is a voice recognition application that allows you to speak and instantly see your text.
Installation Instructions
- Download the app from this location.
- Start the app and choose whether you wish to allow it to use your current location.
- Select your region, accept the terms of use and decide whether to allow the app to add the names of your contacts to its vocabulary database.
- Dragon Dictation is now ready to use.
Evernote
Note taking utility
The Evernote app is designed for notetaking and archiving. A "note" can be a piece of formatted text, a full webpage or webpage excerpt, a photograph, a voice memo, or a handwritten "ink" note.

- Start the app. If you already have an account log in. If not, create a free account by touching the button and filling in your details.
- Evernote is now ready to use.
Mendeley
Reference management software
Mendeley is an app that indexes and organizes all of your PDF documents and research papers into your own personal digital library.
Installation Instructions
- A Mendeley account is required before this app can be used. If necessary, create one by completing the short form at www.mendeley.com and verifying your email address. It is not possible to create an account from the iPad app.
- Download the app from this location
- Log in to the app with your account details.
PaperDesk
Note taking and PDF annotation utility
Paperdesk is a utility for creating handwritten notes, drawing, or for annotating PDF's.

Medscape is a leading medical resource providing access to a comprehensive clinical information database.

- The Medscape app requires a user account to run. When the app starts, it will ask you to create an account if you do not already have one. Complete all the details and note that the
- The app will then download various updates.
- When this download is completed, the app will then ask if you wish to download its 4000+ Clinical Reference articles for offline access. Once any downloads are completed, the app is ready to use.
Stat!Ref
Textbooks
Access a wide range of textbooks online, including Harrison's.
Type of Access
- Accessible via McGill EZ-Proxy or over VPN.
Installation Instructions
- To access McGill's subscription from the iPad app, you must first create a personal username and password. To do this, access the Stat!Ref website from this location, log in to EZ Proxy with your McGill username and password if necessary, and then click on "Your Preferences" in the top right corner of the home page.
- If you do not have a “Your Preferences” account, set up your account by simply entering your details, including an e-mail address and password. Then click the "Temporary Login Account" tab and then on the "Active/Renew" icon. This will then allow you to log in to the Stat!Ref iPad app and access McGill's subscription.
- Download the app from this location
- Once the app has been installed, open it and touch the "User Name & Password" icon from the app home screen. Then enter the email address and password you used to create your personal Stat!Ref account.
- Accept the End User License Agreement.
- You will then have full access to the Stat!Ref book collection from the "Navigate" button at the top right of the screen.
