The full text of most McGill theses may be accessed online through ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Full Text.

Print copies of McGill theses

In order to find any McGill thesis in print, search the McGill Theses subcatalogue in the Library catalogue.

Duplicate copies of McGill theses are available for consultation only at the Rare Book Division Theses Collection, McLennan Library Building, 4th floor.

Finding theses from other institutions

  • ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Full Text is available to the McGill Community. This database includes dissertation and thesis citations from around the world from 1861 to the present day, including full text of most of the dissertations added since 1997.
  • Theses Canada Portal provides free access to the full text electronic versions of Canadian theses and dissertations published from 1998 onward.
  • Index to theses provides a listing of theses with abstracts accepted for higher degrees by universities in Great Britain and Ireland since 1716. (Not full text.)

McGill Theses

  • Summaries and/or full-text of dissertations from McGill University as well as from other participating North American and European institutions; first 24 pages of others 1997-   (some 1996). Masters theses abstracts or full-text 1988-. McGill coverage in this database begins ca. 1934.
  • Search for McGill theses in this thesis subset of McGill's online full catalogue, containing records for many—but not all—McGill theses. Or search using any word (keyword) for "McGill" and "thesis", e.g. "mcgill and thesis and economics" in the full catalogue. There is a copy of many McGill theses which can be borrowed, in McLennan stacks (call number AS42 M3 on M2). The copy available in the Rare Books Division (McLennan M4) is stored in a remote location and may be retrieved—for consultation only— at 10:30 AM or 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Note: Many early McGill theses are not listed in the catalogue but instead may be found listed in the publication McGill University Thesis Directory (1881-1973) available in several McGill branch libraries.
  • McGill e-theses from 2 pilot projects: 1999 (4), 2000 (1), 2001 (2), 2004 (24) and 2005 (1) and voluntary electronic submissions from 2007—    . Also full text of research articles, working papers, conference papers, books and research reports by McGill faculty and students.
