This serves as an index to mythologies in classical literature as they are represented in various forms by artists. The entries are not proper nouns as would be found in mythologies, but instead are terms that represent objects or concepts depicted in various works of art. The listings then give reference to certain mythologies and a list at the beginning of the book indicates the classical works that are cited. It will be a good reference with which to dissect a painting or drawing to find out what certain visual devices could be representing.
