Feasibility Study Communication Group: Established in early September 2014. The Stakeholder Communication Group represents the broad range of stakeholders across the McGill Community, both town and gown. The members are closely connected to their constituencies which includes academics, students, alumni and donors. The group is advisory and will assist in providing the Project Work Team with input and feedback ensuring that all stakeholders are involved in the Master Planning process. Meeting schedule: October 2014, February and May 2015.

Feasibility Study Steering Committee: Established in early September 2014. This small, focused group of stakeholders assists the Project Work Team in ensuring that the project stays on track and is meeting the needs of all stakeholders. Meeting schedule: Every 6 to 8 weeks throughout the process (Sept. 2014 through May 2015).

 

Project scope

Timeline:

  1. Select architect through public tender process – Summer 2014. Completed by Tender evaluation team: Colleen Cook, Paul Guenther (Planning), Robert Stanley (Facilities), Richard Dumond (University of Montreal).
  2. EKM and Shepley Bullfinch will begin their work in September 2014. Extensive input from stakeholders will be sought throughout the fall term.
  3. Develop master plan - September 2014 to  Spring 2015. 
  4. Option review – December 2014
  5. Revision and refinement of the preferred option – Winter 2015
  6. Marketing document of the Library master plan – Fall 2015 – to be used for fundraising and awareness raising.

The feasibility study project will be documented on the website with timelines and will be completed in mid-2015. Website launch in Summer 2014.

The master plan is scheduled to be completed by the suummer of 2015 and released to the external community in the Fall of 2015.

6. McGill Library to organize a 1/2 day symposium for faculty on the  future of academic research libraries.  Thought leaders in the academic, scholarly publishing and research library discussed the changing environment for research libraries and the evolving role of digital and print collections. Panel discussion and Q&A included in scheduled activities. Watch the symposium online here.   March 2015

5. McGill Project team to visit Shepley Bulfinch offices in Boston.  Day 1: Site visits to recently developed library and learning spaces/buildings built by Shepley Bulfinch (Harvard, MIT, Northeastern University and  Salem State University). Day 2: Project planning and charrette workshop with architects.    Jan. 20-21
