Why do I need to renew my Immigration documents?
Immigration regulations require that you have a valid CAQ and Study Permit in order to be able to study in Canada.
The effective dates of your CAQ and Study Permit must cover you from the first day of your first semester at McGill until the last day of your last semester of studies here. If your immigration documents expire during your studies, you are considered to be in Canada illegally.
It is important that you renew your immigration documents on time. You are responsible for ensuring that your documents are valid during your academic studies at McGill.
When should I commence the document renewal process?
You should start the renewal process at least two to three months prior to the expiry date, beginning with the renewal of your CAQ.
