Brett Frischmann’s expertise is in intellectual property and internet law. He will talk about his newest book, Infrastructure: The Social Value of Shared Resources, which examines the relationships between infrastructural resources, property rights, commons and spillovers.

Abstract

The Canadian legal system is based on the fundamental principle of the rule of law.The concept of the rule of law is conceived as a constitutional principle exerting an effective constraint on government action regardless of the existence of a formal constitutional or enabling statutory provision.

The Asia-Pacific Law Association of McGill is proud to bring you Dr. Pittman Potter, Canada's leading expert in Chinese law. His presentation will focus on what the recent Bo Xilai case represents for China and foreigners interested in operating in China. Dr. Potter will discuss corruption risk management, network management, and the challenges of establishing partnerships in China. Dr. Potter will provide clarity on what people need to know about doing business in China, in regards to protecting themselves legally, handling negotiations and government relations.

The Annie MacDonald Langstaff Workshop Series presents Dr. Sonia Lawrence, Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School & Director of the Institute for Feminist Legal Studies.

Alexander Cooley is the Tow Professor for Distinguished Scholars and Practitioners and the Chair of the Political Science Department at Barnard College - Columbia University. His work examines the intersection of international political economy (IPE), domestic politics, and international security. , with a regional focus on the post-Soviet world. He will be presenting his current research on geopolitics and human rights in Central Asia.
