The wireless protocol 802.11b is outdated (from 1999) and has been replaced with faster protocols in recent years (802.11g, 802.11a, and 802.11n). Usage of 802.11b in an area with these faster protocols slows down all network communications because the faster clients have to wait for the slowest one to complete its processes.
Therefore, 802.11b protocol will be decommissioned on McGill's wireless network on May 9, 2011.
If you are suddenly unable to connect to the McGill wireless network you may need to purchase a new wireless network card. If you are unsure, please contact the ICS Service Desk (514-398-3398) for assistance.
