McGill Wireless - changes to network connection settings, November 1, 2011
On Tuesday, November 1, 2011 IT Services will be making changes to the McGill wireless network to provide increased security. The following changes may require some users to reconfigure their wireless connection settings:
- The WPA wireless protocol/security type will no longer be supported; you must select WPA2 or WPA2-Enterprise
- The TKIP data encryption type will no longer be supported; you must select AES.
Most wireless connections set up within the last year should not require any adjustments.
However, our records show that over the past year a significant number of users had wireless settings that will need to be changed. These users will be emailed directly with instructions to delete and reconfigure their wireless connections.
If you are suddenly unable to connect to the McGill wireless network November 1, please delete your existing wireless connection and go to the appropriate IT Knowledge Base article below to configure it again, using the most up to date settings:
- Windows 7
- Windows Vista
- Windows XP
- Mac OS X (10.4)
- Mac OS X (10.5 and 10.6)
- Mobile device / smartphone(includes iPhone, iPod Touch, BlackBerry and Android)
If you are still having problems connecting, contact the ICS Service Desk at 514-398-3398 or email support [dot] ist [at] mcgill [dot] ca
