IT Security Alert: Beware of emails and websites offering Obama news

Published: 23 Jan 2009

Fake websites with headlines related to Barack Obama and the US presidential inauguration have been found to contain malware intended to compromise computer security and allow malicious users remote access to them.

Avoid opening any Obama-related links or email attachments sent to you unless you know the sender, and stick to legitimate news websites for information.

To protect your computer, ensure you are running McGill's antivirus software (free from McGill's Software Licensing website) and that you have installed the latest security updates. Find more on Best practices against IT vulnerabilities and threats in the IT Knowledge Base.
