McGill IST services advise that a major email virus is circulating. Until further information is obtained, be on alert for any suspicious email messages. As always, do not open any unknown or unsolicited attachments.

As always, do not open any unknown or unsolicited attachments. Please visit the IST security website for more details.

If you think a virus may have infected your computer, immediately run a scan to see if it is detected. Virus scans usually take some time, so be patient. Carefully read any messages from the program indicating whether or not the software was able to report, quarantine, or remove the infection. If the computer is on the backbone, please advise your LAN administrator as soon as possible. Meanwhile, keep your email program closed and don't share files or floppies since you risk infecting others. In the event that your antivirus program cannot disinfect a virus, another program may be of help. Since antivirus software is updated frequently, you should update it regularly.
