A Message from the Office of the Dean of Students - Termination of Turnitin Service
As of June 1, 2013, McGill University has ended its licensing agreement with Turnitin and the service is no longer available within myCourses.
As always, McGill is fully committed to academic integrity, and to teaching students how to do ethical, honest, and effective academic work.
The new version of EndNote software - version X7 (Windows) - is now available for download at http://kb.mcgill.ca/it/endnote.
There is a new general telephone number for contacting Directors, Managers and other staff members within IT Services: 514-398-7979. This new number replaces 514-398-5023 and 514-398-7200. All 5-digit extensions for IT staff members are now also available from this new number. For example, to reach a staff member whose old phone number was 514-398-5023 ext. 1234, you would now dial 514-398-7979 and enter extension 1234.
On Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at around 7:00 am, the certificate for McGill wireless network will be renewed. Once the change is made, you may be prompted to accept the new certificate the next time you sign on to the wireless network (wpa.mcgill.ca or wpa.rez.mcgill.ca).
If you have any questions feel free to contact the ICS Service Desk.
In order to improve IT security throughout McGill systems, IT Services has installed the Java Plugin version 6 update 45 on all centrally-managed Windows (PCs) computers.
Faculty and staff members: If you have not already done so, please be sure to log off, but keep your computer powered ON for at least 10 minutes so that the Java update can be installed through the automated update process.
uPrint popup to accept McGill Username & print jobs to stay in the queue for 72 hrs as of Monday, June 3
As of Monday, June 3rd, at 6:00am, the popup that you see when printing to the uPrint Mono [Popup] or uPrint Colour [Popup] queue will now once again let users enter their McGill Username. You'll still be able to enter your McGill Short Username, but now you can enter the credential you prefer to use, meaning less chance for spelling errors that prevent your print job from reaching the queue.
You told us and we listened. You said you wanted an easy way to navigate to the most frequently accessed sites. Now IT Services has introduced a pinnable toolbar accessible from the Quick Links pull-down menu, found at the top of all McGill Web Management System pages. The toolbar contains links to Staff Directory, Maps, myMcGill, myCourses, Minerva and Email.
Just click on the thumbtack to pin the menu to the top of all McGill WMS pages. Try it out!

The following features of the McGill Web System are currently not functional:

The uPrint service will be unavailable due to an upgrade lasting approximately 9 hours, starting on Friday, May 3 at 9pm and ending on Saturday, May 4 at 6am. Any print jobs submitted before the service shut down will stay in the queue for a period of 48 hours and will be available for printing once the system is back up.
IT Customer Services (ICS) will permanently close its Laptop Repair Service effective April 30, 2013. The cost of operating this service has made it difficult to sustain, particularly within the context of the University’s current fiscal situation. ICS will honour any repair requests received by April 30, 2013, but will not accept new requests after that date.
For laptops acquired under an IT Services Procurement Program that require warranty service, ICS will arrange for your laptop to be sent to an external authorized service provider for diagnosis and repair.
The new-generation BlackBerry device (Z10 and others) can retrieve your McGill email by synchronizing using ActiveSync. Please see the related link for more information.
