Internet and telephone service has been restored to Macdonald campus. Hydro-Québec and Bell Canada created a temporary bypass route. A transfer back to the original route to restore full service will be done tomorrow morning. As a result there might be a short downtime to telephone and Internet service at Macdonald campus tomorrow morning between 08h00 and 08h30 for around 10 minutes.
Due to a fire in one of Hydro-Québec's substations, communications into and out of Macdonald campus have been affected. Within Macdonald campus, there is full telephone service, and outgoing calls are possible; however, incoming calls are not possible. Internet access is also not possible. NCS is making efforts to resolve Internet connectivity and restore telephone service. Hydro-Québec is working to resolve this problem.
All staff using the McGill site license of Symantec antivirus at home are encouraged to upgrade.
The 09/2004 term Grade Submission opens as of November 23, 2004.
As part of the overall university initiative to phase out NetWare file and print services, all services currently provided by WORF (public domain NetWare server) will be migrated to a Windows environment or eliminated no later than Friday, January 14, 2005.

Our Internet service provider was experiencing problems on their network yesterday afternoon, which was subsequently causing Internet connectivity problems within the McGill community yesterday afternoon. These problems have since been resolved and full Internet service should be back to normal.
Minerva and all related Banner administrative systems will be unavailable from 5 pm Friday, November 12, to 9 am Monday, November 15, 2004. ICS will be monitoring the process and providing any necessary status reports as well as further details on what the upgrade will bring.
Banner and Minerva are down until further notice. As a precaution, we are performing more tests and data validation before making the system available. This notice will be updated as appropriate.
CorporateTime (CT) licences will expire at the end of November and will not be renewed. This means that the CT server will be disconnected and access to use of CT will end. For many if not most CT account holders this is not an issue since they have moved from CT to Exchange and the ecalendar features available with Outlook and Outlook Web Access (OWA). If you are one of the few individuals who have yet to move off CT please contact your LAN manager immediately to be scheduled to be moved. Once the licences expire you will lose access to your CT ecalendar information.
Effective October 16, 2004, the rate for using the Long Distance DAS Service will be reduced from 10 cents per minute to 5 cents per minute. Please see more information on the NCS website.
McGill and University of Miami sign a deal to work together on ventures in engineering and information technology.
While still working to resolve known problems with Service Pack 2 on Windows XP machines, ICS maintains its recommendation against installation at this time. Updates on the situation will continue to be posted as more information becomes available. Meanwhile, ICS is recompiling recent problems encountered as a result of SP2 installation.
Janine Schmidt has been appointed as Trenholme Director of Libraries. Her term in office will begin on February 1, 2005.
Please note that the PO-BOX mail server will be unavailable from 06h00 to 09h30 on Sunday, September 19, 2004, due to a maintenance procedure. The STAFF and ELF mail servers may also experience intermittent downtimes during this period. Incoming mail will be queued and delivered when service is restored.
