ICS reissues recommendation against installing SP2 to its Windows XP users
While still working to resolve known problems with Service Pack 2 on Windows XP machines, ICS maintains its recommendation against installation at this time. Updates on the situation will continue to be posted as more information becomes available. Meanwhile, ICS is recompiling recent problems encountered as a result of SP2 installation.
McGill University names new Trenholme Director of Libraries
Janine Schmidt has been appointed as Trenholme Director of Libraries. Her term in office will begin on February 1, 2005.
Email servers unavailability
Please note that the PO-BOX mail server will be unavailable from 06h00 to 09h30 on Sunday, September 19, 2004, due to a maintenance procedure. The STAFF and ELF mail servers may also experience intermittent downtimes during this period. Incoming mail will be queued and delivered when service is restored.
Service Pack 2 installation on Windows XP machines not recommended at this time
ICS does not recommend that our users install Service Pack 2 on Windows XP machines at this time. Resolutions to SP2 problems are still being sought. Updates on the situation will be posted as more information becomes available. Meanwhile ICS, in collaboration with faculty and department LAN administrators, is compiling some of the most recent problems encountered as a result of SP2 installation.

Banner Client users should not install SP2 for Windows XP
It has been reported that the Banner Client data extract function does not work when users install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP. Because no patch or other workaround has been supplied yet, automatic deployment of the service pack has been blocked on all machines of ICS customers. Banner users should not install the service manually.

ICS Customer Support offers extended online and telephone first-level support, outside our regular hours, for the following services: WebCT, email, DAS, VPN, and wireless.
Frances K. Groen wins 2004 award for Distinguished Service to Research Librarianship
The Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) today recognized Frances K. Groen, Trenholme Director of Libraries, McGill University, as the winner of the CARL national award for Distinguished Service to Research Librarianship.
