Some users may experience problems accessing the network once they are logged into VPN. We are currently working on resolving this problem.
Announcement on behalf of the Interim Provost and CIO, Anthony C. Masi: Effective 16 June 2005, Dialup Access Services (DAS) will be provided free of charge to all academic staff. The provision of free DAS removes the previous restrictions of only four free hours for academic staff and free monthly use only for instructors who used DAS to access WebCT. For full details regarding this new amendment and all applicable conditions, please see the NCS DAS policy page. For questions regarding these changes, please contact ICS Customer Support (online) or by phone at 514-398-3398.
10 pm Sat., June 18, 2005 to 10 am Sun., June 19, 2005.
On Sunday, June 12, from 12 am to 2 am, there will be a scheduled hardware upgrade to the WebCT Campus Edition server and therefore WebCT will be out of production for that time. The upgrade will mainly address a number of hardware performance issues that will speed up the server backup times. The upgrade will be completely transparent from a user's point of view, since the user interface will remain untouched.
We are pleased to announce the 2005-2006 Academic Laptop Program.

Please note that E-mail For Life (ELF) will be unavailable on Thursday, June 2, 2005 from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm, due to a maintenance procedure. Incoming mail for ELF users will be queued and delivered when service is restored.
Please be advised that NCS will begin implementation on June 6 of the recently adopted policies regarding the reduction of spam originating from McGill's network. Access control lists will be implemented at the network perimeter to prevent SMTP traffic from the DAS, wireless, VPN and residence VLANS reaching the Internet directly. Machines on these networks should have mail client programs configured to relay via mailhost.mcgill.ca. It may however change the nature of the error message received from 'relaying denied' to 'connection timed out.' Those most likely to be affected are mobile PC and VPN users who switch between our network and a high-speed provider. Most of those users are already familiar with the situation in that Videotron and Sympatico have blocked outgoing port 25 for the last few years. For email client configuration information for supported client programs click on 'More information.'
